Hook: The First 3 Seconds
The attention economy is merciless. If a user swipes past your video in the first three seconds, the algorithm logs it as a failure. Your hook is the single most important element of your short-form video.
Visual vs. Audio Hooks
A great hook operates on two levels simultaneously. Visually, something must be happening—a camera movement, a prop being dropped, text popping on screen. Audibly, you must break the silence immediately. Say the most compelling part of your sentence first.
The Negative Hook
"Stop doing [X] if you want [Y]." Negative framing exploits loss aversion, forcing the viewer to pause to ensure they aren't making a mistake.
The Curiosity Gap
"This is the secret [Industry] doesn't want you to know." It opens a loop in the viewer's brain that can only be closed by watching the video.
